Medical dermatology
Medical care for rosacea and laser treatment for the redness, flushing, broken capillaries and spider veins it leaves behind, guided by a double board-certified dermatologist.
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory condition that causes persistent facial redness, flushing, visible blood vessels and sometimes acne-like red bumps. It has no cure, but it can be controlled. Dr. Cappel combines trigger management and gentle skincare with treatments that target the dilated vessels themselves: the Alma Veil vascular laser, Aerolase Neo laser and Fotoage photodynamic therapy.
Rosacea appears to come from a combination of genetic predisposition, an overactive immune response and abnormal blood vessels in the face. The vessels dilate too easily in response to triggers, so redness persists and capillaries become visible. Unlike a blush, it does not fade, and it can worsen over time without treatment.
Facial redness can also occur without rosacea, often from sun damage, broken capillaries or other vascular conditions. Either way, the visible redness comes from dilated or damaged blood vessels near the surface of the skin.
Topical and oral medications can calm inflammation, but they often give only temporary relief because they do not address the vessels behind the redness. That is why laser and light therapy sit at the center of our approach.
Medical and cosmetic
Some patients come to us with diagnosed rosacea, others simply want clearer, more even skin. The same vascular treatments address both.
Chronic redness, flushing, visible vessels and acne-like bumps. In advanced cases, eye irritation, thickened skin or an enlarged nose (rhinophyma).
Persistent redness across the cheeks and nose, often triggered by heat, stress or other environmental factors.
Damaged or dilated capillaries that show as red or purple lines, often from sun exposure, aging, rosacea or trauma.
Small, dilated vessels on the surface of the skin, commonly on the nose and cheeks and on the legs.
Small, bright red or purple dome-shaped growths caused by a proliferation of blood vessels.
Reddish-brown discoloration on the neck and chest from sun damage, aging and vascular changes. Veil treats both its red and brown components.
Veil is a dual-wavelength vascular laser (532 nm and 1064 nm) that targets unwanted redness, visible blood vessels and vascular lesions at both superficial and deeper levels. The laser energy is absorbed by the hemoglobin in the vessel and converted to heat, which destroys the vessel while leaving the surrounding skin intact.
DermaCore delivery treats large and small vessels at once, MicroPulse lets the skin cool between pulses, and integrated contact cooling keeps you comfortable before, during and after treatment. Many patients see improvement after one session; most need 1 to 4 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart.
The Aerolase Neo is a gentle 650-microsecond Nd:YAG laser that targets dilated vessels and calms inflammation without pain or damage to the surface, and it is safe for all skin types. No numbing is needed, and any mild redness afterward usually fades within a few hours.
Fotoage is a form of photodynamic therapy (PDT). A photosensitive serum is applied, then you relax for 20 to 30 minutes under an LED mask that activates it, treating inflammation and vascular changes at a cellular level. It is painless with no downtime. Both treatments typically work best as a series of 4 to 6 sessions.
Managing triggers is essential alongside professional treatment. Keeping a diary of your flare-ups helps you find your own.
Often both. Rosacea is a medical diagnosis that needs ongoing management, while broken capillaries and redness from sun damage are frequently treated for appearance. Vascular concerns can also signal underlying vascular instability, chronic inflammation or cumulative UV damage that keeps progressing without treatment.
Whether you book a medical visit or an aesthetic consultation, care starts the same way: Dr. Cappel evaluates your skin, confirms the cause of the redness and designs a plan that addresses both its health and its appearance.
Treatment overview
Dr. Cappel confirms your diagnosis with a comprehensive Alma IQ skin analysis and recommends a personalized plan.
Avoid sun and tanning for 2 to 4 weeks, stop photosensitizing medications if your physician approves, and arrive with clean skin.
A cooled handpiece delivers precise pulses; you may feel warmth and a mild snapping. 15 to 45 minutes depending on the area.
Mild redness and swelling for a few hours to 1 to 2 days. Makeup can go on the next day, and sun protection is essential.
Visible improvement within 1 to 2 weeks. Treated vessels may look darker at first before fading as the body absorbs them.
Most patients need 1 to 4 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, with periodic maintenance to keep rosacea under control.
Suitability
Very dark skin tones need careful assessment and adjusted settings. For brown spots and melasma, see sun spots and melasma; for breakouts that are not rosacea, see acne treatment.

No. Rosacea is a chronic condition with no cure, but it can be managed effectively with the right combination of treatment, lifestyle changes and skincare, and many patients keep it under control long term.

They are designed to be comfortable. Aerolase Neo feels like gentle warmth, Fotoage is relaxing, and Veil may cause a mild snapping sensation that its built-in cooling minimizes. No anesthesia is typically needed.

Very little. After Veil, most patients have mild redness for a few hours to 1 to 2 days and can wear makeup the next day. Aerolase Neo and Fotoage have no downtime.
Rosacea is chronic, so it may need ongoing care. Many patients enjoy clear skin for months or even years after a treatment series, with periodic maintenance sessions, especially if exposed to known triggers.
Wear broad-spectrum sunscreen daily, avoid extreme temperatures, manage stress, limit alcohol and spicy foods, and use gentle, fragrance-free skincare. A flare-up diary helps you identify your personal triggers.
