What are Botox, Dysport and Letybo, and what do they treat?

Short answer

Botox, Dysport and Letybo are FDA-approved neurotoxins, purified botulinum toxin type A injected in small, precise doses to relax the facial muscles that create expression lines. With the muscle relaxed, the skin over it smooths out. They treat forehead lines, frown lines (the "11s"), crow's feet and other dynamic wrinkles, and help prevent new lines from forming.

Dynamic wrinkles form from repeated expression. Every time you frown, squint or raise your eyebrows, the muscles underneath contract and the skin folds. In younger skin those creases disappear when the muscle relaxes; over time they become lines that stay visible at rest.

Neurotoxins block the nerve signal (acetylcholine) that tells the muscle to contract. The effect is temporary, lasting about three to four months, after which muscle activity gradually returns and a repeat treatment maintains the result.

At Dermagnify the approach is results-driven, not units-driven. Rather than charging by the number of units injected, treatment is structured around the areas you want to change, so you receive the right dose for your anatomy and goals.

Three options

Botox, Dysport or Letybo?

All three are safe, FDA-approved and clinically effective. Dr. Cappel recommends the one best suited to your anatomy, treatment history and goals.

  • Botox, the original

OnabotulinumtoxinA, FDA-approved since 2002 and the most studied neurotoxin worldwide. Predictable, precise results for forehead lines, frown lines and crow's feet, for first-time patients and long-term plans alike.

  • Dysport, the fast-acting alternative

AbobotulinumtoxinA, FDA-approved since 2009. A slightly faster onset (2 to 5 days) and broader diffusion make it well suited to larger areas such as the forehead.

  • Letybo, the newest generation

LetibotulinumtoxinA, FDA-approved in 2024 and studied specifically for glabellar lines (the 11s). Manufactured to a high purity standard, and currently Dr. Cappel's favorite.

Which areas can be treated?

The upper face responds best: forehead lines, frown lines and crow's feet, the three areas in our Upper Face Refresh. Dr. Cappel personalizes dosing to your muscle strength and how much movement you want to keep.

Neurotoxin is also used to slim a square jawline (masseter), relax vertical neck bands (platysma), lift the outer brow, soften bunny lines and lip lines, turn up the corners of the mouth, and smooth a dimpled chin. It can also treat excessive underarm sweating.

  • Forehead lines: frontalis, typically 10 to 20 units
  • Frown lines (11s): corrugators and procerus, typically 20 to 25 units
  • Crow's feet: orbicularis oculi, typically 10 to 12 units per side
  • Non-surgical brow lift: depressor supercilii, 4 to 6 units per side
  • Neck bands: platysma, typically 20 to 40 units
  • Jawline slimming: masseter relaxation for a softer, V-shaped contour

Will I look frozen?

Not when the dose and placement are right. Dr. Cappel starts conservatively and refines at your follow-up visit, so you look refreshed while keeping your natural expressions.

Placement matters as much as dose. Crow's feet, for example, are treated with small superficial injections, because overtreating that area can flatten a smile. A frown line treatment often produces the most visible improvement of any single area, since those lines make people look tired or tense.

Why see a dermatologist for neurotoxin?

A board-certified dermatologist brings detailed knowledge of facial anatomy, familiarity with the full range of skin conditions, and the ability to manage any complication directly. At Dermagnify, Dr. Cappel personally administers all neurotoxin treatments.

Neurotoxins pair well with other treatments. Laser treatments such as Aerolase improve skin quality, and medical-grade skincare maintains results between visits. Dr. Cappel sequences combined treatments for safe, optimal results.

Questions

Questions about Botox

At Dermagnify, Botox, Dysport and Letybo are priced by area: $350 for one area, $600 for two and $750 for the Upper Face Refresh across all three upper-face areas. DermagnifyVIP members pay $300, $500 and $600. Premium areas such as neck bands start at $450 and masseters at $600.

All three are FDA-approved neurotoxins with the same mechanism. Botox (2002) is the most established and gives precise, targeted results. Dysport (2009) works slightly faster and spreads more broadly, which suits larger areas like the forehead. Letybo (2024) is the newest, studied specifically for frown lines. Dr. Cappel recommends the best fit for you.

Our approach is results-driven, not units-driven. Pricing by area aligns the cost with the result you want and ensures you receive the right dose for your anatomy, rather than a unit count.

Results begin within 2 to 7 days. Dysport and Letybo usually show earlier (2 to 5 days) than Botox (3 to 7 days). The full effect is visible at 10 to 14 days.

Three to four months for all three products, depending on your metabolism, muscle strength, dose and the area treated. Regular maintenance every three to four months sustains results and may allow lower doses over time.

Most patients describe a brief pinch or slight sting. Ultra-fine needles are used and topical numbing is available on request. Treatment takes 10 to 20 minutes.

Preventative treatment in your 20s and early 30s has become common. Used early and conservatively, it may help delay deeper static wrinkles. Dr. Cappel evaluates each patient individually.

No. Neurotoxin treatment is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Postpone treatment until after breastfeeding is complete.
