What is advanced skin analysis, and how does it personalize skincare?

Short answer

Advanced skin analysis uses the Alma IQ imaging platform to photograph your face, neck and décolleté in ten specialized light modes in under 10 seconds. It reveals hidden pigmentation, redness, texture, acne bacteria, hydration and volume loss. Dr. Cappel uses those findings, with Alma IQ's treatment guidance, to build a medical-grade skincare regimen for your skin.

Many concerns sit beneath the surface: hidden pigmentation, vascular conditions, early aging, subclinical sun damage and texture irregularities. A standard visual exam cannot always see them.

Alma IQ generates detailed reports with intelligent treatment guidance based on your skin type, concerns, severity and downtime preferences. Dr. Cappel combines that data with his clinical judgment to choose treatments and products, and explains why each one is recommended.

Your images are stored in your patient record, so we can track your progress over time and adjust your plan as your skin changes. You see exactly what Dr. Cappel sees.

What the imaging reveals

Concerns Alma IQ brings to the surface

Each light mode is designed to show a different layer of your skin's story.

  • Hidden pigmentation and sun damage

True UV and Cross Polarized modes reveal melanin irregularities and sun damage before they surface, allowing early treatment.

  • Redness and vascular conditions

Redness mode highlights vascular activity, rosacea, broken capillaries and inflammation that need targeted treatment.

  • Texture and fine lines

Parallel Polarized and Texture modes show fine lines, wrinkles and rough texture with exceptional clarity.

  • Acne and oil activity

True UV fluorescence exposes acne-related bacteria and sebaceous activity, guiding treatment of breakouts and their prevention.

  • Volume loss and structural aging

360° Light and 360° Grey modes reveal subtle changes in contour, volume and tissue elasticity.

  • Progress over time

Stored images let you see measurable change from your treatments and let us adjust your plan as your skin evolves.

What happens during the analysis?

The analysis usually takes place at the start of your consultation. You sit in front of the Alma IQ device and, in under 10 seconds, it captures high-resolution images of your face, neck and décolleté using ten light modes and 360° light technology. Nothing touches your skin, and there is no preparation or downtime.

Dr. Cappel then reviews the images with you in real time, explaining what each mode reveals. Together you discuss your concerns, goals and the treatments most likely to address both visible and hidden issues. You receive detailed reports of your results and recommendations.

What is AI-personalized skincare?

It is a data-driven way to build your daily skincare regimen. Your Alma IQ results show which concerns to target: pigmentation, redness, texture, acne or hydration. Dr. Cappel adds your skin type, sensitivities and lifestyle, then selects medical-grade products with pharmaceutical-quality active ingredients at therapeutic concentrations.

Each product is chosen to work with the others. You receive clear instructions on what to use, in what order and how often, and Dr. Cappel reviews your current products to decide which, if any, to keep. A comprehensive regimen usually includes 4 to 6 products: cleanser, treatment serums, moisturizer and sunscreen.

How is medical-grade skincare different?

Medical-grade products contain pharmaceutical-quality active ingredients at therapeutic concentrations. Over-the-counter products often contain the same ingredients at concentrations too low to make a real difference, and choosing them without guidance can mean the wrong products, in the wrong order, or ones that irritate your skin.

Some actives, particularly retinoids and acids, can cause dryness, redness or peeling at first while your skin adjusts. Dr. Cappel guides you through that period and adjusts your regimen if needed. Most patients see better texture and brightness within four to eight weeks, with pigmentation, fine lines and acne improving over eight to twelve.
