What is medical-grade skincare?

Short answer

Medical-grade skincare is pharmaceutical-quality skincare available only through licensed healthcare providers. It contains clinically proven actives such as retinoids, vitamin C, growth factors, peptides, exosomes and DNA repair enzymes at therapeutic concentrations, which is why it changes the skin rather than only sitting on its surface.

Over-the-counter products often contain the same ingredients at concentrations too low to make a meaningful difference. Medical-grade formulations are backed by clinical research, made to strict quality standards and built for ingredient purity, stability and penetration.

What you put on your skin is half of the plan. Nutraceuticals, pharmaceutical-grade supplements at therapeutic doses, work from the inside: internal sun protection, support for hair growth, and help with the inflammation and oxidative stress that accelerate aging.

Both are chosen for you, not off a shelf. Your regimen starts with an Alma IQ skin analysis and a review of your history, and Dr. Cappel adjusts it as your skin evolves.

How is medical-grade different from over-the-counter?

Concentration and proof. Medical-grade brands invest in clinical studies showing objective improvement in wrinkles, pigmentation, texture and firmness, and use delivery systems that carry actives to their target cells.

Authentic medical-grade skincare is sold only through licensed healthcare providers. Products from unauthorized online sellers may be counterfeit, expired or improperly stored.

Why add nutraceuticals?

Internal health shows on the outside. Nutraceuticals address root causes of skin and hair concerns, including nutritional deficiency, inflammation, hormonal imbalance and oxidative stress, and support collagen production, hair growth and skin health.

Medical-grade supplements are supported by clinical research, made to GMP standards and dosed at levels proven to work, unlike the minimal amounts in many generic supplements. They also enhance and prolong the results of topical skincare and in-office treatments such as lasers, PRP and chemical peels.

How Dr. Cappel builds your regimen

Every regimen starts with an assessment, not a product list. Dr. Cappel reviews your skin analysis, goals, skin type, sensitivities, medical history and current medications.

  • Skin analysis: an Alma IQ skin analysis reveals hidden pigmentation, vascular changes, texture and aging
  • Selection: products and supplements with the actives and doses suited to your concerns
  • Instructions: what to use, in what order, how often, and when to take each supplement
  • Follow-up: repeat analysis tracks progress so your regimen can be adjusted

Keeping your in-office results

At-home care is essential to maintaining and extending the results of lasers, chemical peels and injectables. A typical regimen includes four to six products: a cleanser, treatment serums, a moisturizer and sunscreen.

Retinoids, acids and vitamin C can cause dryness, redness or peeling at first while your skin builds tolerance. Dr. Cappel guides you through that adjustment and modifies the regimen if needed.
