At Dermagnify, Medical, Surgical and Cosmetic Dermatology in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Dr. Mark A. Cappel, MD, offers the Alma Veil™, an advanced dual-wavelength vascular laser workstation that represents the gold standard in vascular and pigment correction. We proudly serve patients in Ponte Vedra Beach, Jacksonville, St. Augustine, and throughout Northeast Florida.
Vascular concerns like spider veins, broken capillaries, rosacea, and diffused redness affect millions of Americans, causing self-consciousness, discomfort, and frustration. Pigmented lesions such as sun spots, age spots, freckles, and melasma create uneven skin tone that ages your appearance and reveals years of sun exposure. These concerns are not just cosmetic, they can indicate underlying vascular instability, chronic inflammation, or cumulative UV damage that continues to worsen without intervention.
As a double board-certified dermatologist and dermatopathologist, Dr. Cappel, MD, has extensive expertise in diagnosing and treating vascular and pigmented lesions safely and effectively. He understands the underlying biology of these conditions and uses the most advanced technology available to deliver superior results with maximum patient comfort. Your journey to clear, radiant skin begins with the right diagnosis, the right technology, and the right expertise.
Vascular and pigment correction is a laser treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to selectively target and eliminate unwanted blood vessels and pigmented lesions.
The treatment is based on the principle of selective photothermolysis—the laser energy is absorbed by specific chromophores (color targets) in the skin, such as hemoglobin in blood vessels or melanin in pigmented lesions. When the laser energy is absorbed, it converts to heat, which destroys the target structure while leaving surrounding healthy tissue intact.
Alma Veil™ is an advanced dual-wavelength vascular laser workstation that effectively targets a comprehensive range of vascular and dermatological conditions using three best-in-class technologies seamlessly integrated into a single handpiece.

Key Concerns Addressed
Spider Veins (Telangiectasias)
Small, dilated blood vessels visible on the surface of the skin, commonly appearing on the face (nose, cheeks) and legs. Alma Veil™ effectively eliminates spider veins with minimal discomfort.
Broken Capillaries
Damaged or dilated capillaries that appear as red or purple lines on the face, often caused by sun exposure, aging, rosacea, or trauma. Alma Veil™ targets and destroys these vessels, restoring clear skin.
Rosacea & Diffused Redness
Chronic inflammatory condition causing persistent facial redness, flushing, visible blood vessels, and sometimes acne-like bumps. Alma Veil™ reduces redness and visible vessels, improving skin tone and comfort.
Cherry Angiomas
Small, bright red or purple dome-shaped growths caused by proliferation of blood vessels. Alma Veil™ safely and effectively removes cherry angiomas with minimal scarring.
Poikiloderma
Reddish-brown discoloration on the neck and chest caused by sun damage, aging, and vascular changes. Alma Veil™ treats both the vascular and pigmented components of poikiloderma.

TREATMENT
OVERVIEW

Your Initial Consultation
Dr. Cappel, MD, will perform a comprehensive Alma IQ® skin analysis to assess your vascular and pigmented concerns, evaluate your skin type, review your medical history, and discuss your goals and expectations. He will recommend a customized treatment plan.
Pre-Treatment Preparation
Avoid sun exposure and tanning for 2-4 weeks before treatment. Discontinue photosensitizing medications if possible (with your physician's approval). Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup and lotions.
During the Treatment
The treatment area is cleansed. The Alma Veil™ handpiece with integrated contact cooling is applied to your skin. You will feel a warming sensation and possibly a mild snapping feeling as the laser pulses are delivered. Most patients find the treatment comfortable with the integrated cooling. Treatment time is typically 15-45 minutes depending on the area treated.
Immediate Aftercare
After treatment, the treated area may appear red and slightly swollen (similar to a mild sunburn). Treated pigmented lesions may darken initially before flaking off. Ice packs and soothing products are applied. You will receive detailed post-treatment instructions.
Recovery & Downtime
Most patients experience mild redness for a few hours to 1-2 days. Treated spider veins may appear darker initially before fading over 2-4 weeks. Treated pigmented lesions may darken and flake off within 7-14 days. There is typically no disruption to daily activities, and makeup can be applied the next day.
Results Timeline
Vascular lesions: Visible improvement within 1-2 weeks as treated vessels are reabsorbed. Pigmented lesions: Darkening and flaking within 7-14 days, with continued lightening over 4-6 weeks. Multiple sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart may be needed for optimal results.
Potential Risks
When performed by an experienced dermatologist, Alma Veil™ treatments are safe and effective. Potential risks include temporary redness, swelling, bruising, darkening of pigmented lesions (expected), hyperpigmentation (rare), hypopigmentation (rare), blistering (very rare), and scarring (very rare).
Dr. Cappel, MD, will minimize risks through proper patient selection, treatment protocols, and post-care instructions.
